From heavy metal concerts to the DSO, I love all types of music. I learned to play drums at an early age and am now learning to play bass guitar.

Experience

As the group tax leader overseeing tax technology & innovation at Plante Moran, I assist the management team in implementing the policies and goals of the tax department.

I’m also responsible for the overall coordination and delivery of tax services for my clients. I advise business leaders on a variety of tax and business matters including buy or sale transactions, entity selection and structure, international tax, and multistate tax matters.

Since I started my career as an auditor, I bring a combination of audit and tax experience that helps me understand the financial and operational impact of tax strategies. This helps me optimize a balanced, practical approach to tax savings for my clients.

I was originally attracted to this career because of the black-and-white nature of the business. A financial statement must foot; tax must be calculated according to laws. While these are still true, I’ve remained in this profession for greater reasons. The biggest reason? The relationships I get to build with staff and clients. Recently, I celebrated 20 years with the firm — and I’m still going strong. I love the wide variety of experiences I’ve been involved in and people I’ve worked with.

I received a B.S. in accounting from Walsh College. I belong to the AICPA and the MICPA.

Away from the office, I love spending time with my wife and our three kids. In the summer, we try to get on our boat — appropriately named “Family Time” — as much as possible.
