In my youth, I lived near and regularly hiked the Appalachian Mountains of upper East Tennessee. Once I fell off a 100-foot-high waterfall. The view on the way down was spectacular, but I wouldn’t recommend it as an activity of choice.

Experience

As a leader in our National Tax Office, I help clients plan for the impact of taxes on their business operations, significant transactions, and personal wealth. I assist business owners with the organization, operation, and disposition of their businesses in a tax-efficient manner.

With a focus on federal domestic tax policy, I provide a unique perspective on the ownership, operation of, and the ultimate transfer or sale of closely held businesses, including both family and private equity-owned or controlled businesses. My work crosses most industry lines and covers income, estate and gift, and employee benefit/executive compensation tax areas. I’m also a member of our Tax Education Committee, helping to organize and direct the delivery of professional training and development courses for our tax staff.

I enjoy the diversity of people, businesses, and circumstances that I encounter. My interest in business combined with a natural quantitative bent and an ability to think creatively make tax consulting an ideal career for me. My work with our clients allows me to work across all our offices and industries and bring value to clients regardless of their geography. Effectively delivering timely, quality service to diverse clients on a national scale is both a challenge and a source of great satisfaction.

I'm a frequent speaker on a variety of tax and estate planning topics, from succession planning and healthcare reform to estate planning and income tax planning.

In my local community, I am a sacristan at my parish, an active member of my local alumni club, in which I have served in a variety of leadership roles, and president of the board of A Good Neighbor Foundation, a grant-funding organization supporting the efforts of operating not-for-profit organizations in the Cincinnati area. I’ve received the Notre Dame Alumni Club of Cincinnati Award of the Year, which recognizes a local graduate for their service to the church, community, club, and/or university. I received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame and my Juris Doctorate from Vanderbilt University School of Law.

Outside of work, I love college football and tailgating. My family and I attend all the home games at my alma mater and put on a pretty good tailgate (or so we are told). Otherwise, I enjoy traveling — enjoying getting to know a city and culture, the people, and the best local spots.
