Jimmy Mahoney, an assurance senior out of the firm’s Schaumberg office, was recently featured in a SOAR Magazine article from Shepherds College, a postsecondary school created with the needs of students who have intellectual or development disabilities in mind.
In the article, Jimmy shares that he was intrigued by what he’d learned about Shepherds College, so he arranged a visit to tour the campus, meet with staff and students, and volunteer to help with mock job interviews. Jimmy was so impressed by the visit that he was inspired to organize a fundraiser through Plante Moran’s Minds of All Kinds Staff Resource Group to support the school’s academic programming.
Jimmy was excited that Plante Moran could work with Shepherds College because their programs help neurodiverse students reach their full potential.
“I’m neurodiverse myself — I have autism — and I understand it can be challenging to have high self-esteem,” Jimmy explained. “I’ve had moments where I doubted I would make it this far in public accounting. However, I’ve overcome those obstacles to be the professional I am today.”
At Plante Moran, Jimmy advocates for diversity, equity, and inclusion. In 2021, he co-founded the Minds of All Kinds Staff Resource Group, which celebrates and supports neurodiversity. Since then, the group has grown to 400-plus members.
