As an assurance partner in the financial services sector, I specialize in proactively addressing risks to protect and build shareholder value and minimize the risk of regulatory criticism. I supervise assurance, tax, and risk management engagements to provide holistic services to my clients — most of whom are financial institutions and specialty lenders focused on commercial finance. My clients include community banks and specialty finance lenders as small as $100 million in assets to large regional and national brands.
With more than 15 years at Plante Moran, my greatest accomplishment is developing a team of specialists that exceeds the needs of our financial services clients. I've been a counselor and trusted advisor for financial services clients during the most tumultuous period in our generation. I've played a significant role in capital raises and business combinations that have protected and enhanced shareholder value. While I hope the COVID-19 pandemic’s impact on financial services clients is modest, I stand ready to provide counsel to clients as they face the uncertainties that lie ahead.
I frequently speak with clients, their boards, and at industry conferences — for example, the Wisconsin Bankers Association CFO Conference and Financial Managers Society Bank Accounting Update — about topics such as CECL and cybersecurity. I’ve most recently participated in various CEO roundtables providing updates to regulatory and financial accounting requirements on the classification and accounting for troubled debt restructurings.
I belong to the AICPA and the Illinois CPA Society. I’m active with the Illinois Bankers Association, the Wisconsin Bankers Association, and the Financial Managers Society. I sit on the board of the finance committee of Allies for Community Business Finance, a not-for-profit microfinance lender serving Illinois and Indiana. I received my bachelor’s degree in accounting from Hope College.
I’m an avid golfer and love to fly-fish, although my time spent on those hobbies has certainly changed due to our growing family. I spend a lot of time chasing our two children under the age of four.
