Plante Moran Realpoint (PMR) serves as the development coordinator in support of the $3.3 billion “Future of Health: Detroit” vision — a transformative and comprehensive undertaking by Henry Ford Health and its key partners the Detroit Pistons and Michigan State University in Detroit’s New Center neighborhood.
When complete, “The Future of Health” will both transform Henry Ford Health’s legacy Detroit hospital into a world-class destination academic medical campus and create a vibrant, walkable community, complete with a medical research center, modernized housing, retail and green spaces, and more.
The broader project will integrate clinical, medical, and educational facilities within a mixed-use development, fostering an environment where people can live, work, play, and learn. PMR’s role is to lead the feasibility, planning, and execution of the public financing component, community outreach, public approval, infrastructure, and development partner coordination.
The interconnected campus will consist of the following:
- Expansion of Henry Ford Hospital with a new 1.2-million-square-foot state-of-the-art hospital facility (including a 20-floor patient tower, a vastly expanded emergency department, and five floors of specialized ICU rooms)
- New 185,000-square-foot shared services building (including kitchen, lab, sterile processing, and central receiving)
- Construction of a $335 million, seven-story, 335,000-square-foot Henry Ford Health + Michigan State University Health Sciences Research Center
- Conversion of Henry Ford Health’s administrative offices into residential/mixed-use and construction of two new residential/mixed-use buildings, totaling 600+ housing units and 33,000 square feet of retail and community space with an affordable housing component
- Two new parking structures with 1,900+ total spaces
- New public recreation and green spaces
- Upgrades to campus infrastructure
